August 'Gus' Raymond Kief, 94, of Pekin passed away at 4:20 A.M. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Pekin Manor Born August 12, 1916, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska to William and Emma (Heisel) Kief, he married Margaret Hild on December 18, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1997. On February 26, 2005 he married Wilma Bennewitz. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Sharon (Dale) Cook of Pekin; son, Dennis (Marla) Kief; four grandchildren, Mark Cook of Pekin, Michelle (Todd) Hicks of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike Cook of Pekin, and Amy Kief of Canton, Illinois and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Hicks, Margaret Hicks and Sarah Hicks, all of Cincinnati. August was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. One sister survives. He served in the United Sates Army in World War II and was stationed in the Phillipines. He worked as a millwright for 37 years at Corn Products in Pekin retiring in 1978. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and was also a diehard Chicago Cub fan. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ where funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 9, 2011. The Reverend Dwight Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The arrangements have been entrusted to Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin.
