Anthony B. 'Tony' Taubert, 68, of 8 Chestnut Court, Clinton, passed away at 2:30 am Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Manor Court of Clinton from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).He was formerly of Pekin, IL. Tony was born on September 7, 1939, in Mobile AL, the son of Dr. Russell K. and June L. (Kernan) Taubert.He married Betsy L. Bryan on August 2, 1970, in Champaign, IL. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Tammy (Bob) Marks of DeWitt, IL, and Michele (Jeff) Mahoney of Clinton; one son, Derek (Jo) Taubert of Newark, CA; and 4 grandchildren, Chase Stephenson of Clinton, Lacey Frye of DeWitt, IL, Caleb Mahoney of Clinton and Brendan Taubert of Newark, CA; his brother the Honorable Nicholas Taubert of Los Angeles, CA; his sister, Catherine Tracy (Randall) Thornton of Akron, OH; and two nephews, Andrew (Lindsay) Thornton and Peter Thornton both of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tony was a 1957 Pekin Community High graduate where he was a member of the Pekin Chink's Wrestling Team and the Drama Club. On February 24, 1961, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army attainingthe rank of First Lieutenant as a Chemical Warfare Specialist.He was Honorably discharged on March 29, 1963. A graduate of MacMurray College, Tony worked as Manager of the Hybrid Microelectronics Laboratory for Magnavox Systems, Inc. in Urbana, IL. He was then Chief Chemist for Revere Ware Corporation in Clinton for 22 years, retiring in 1994.During his retirement he worked part-time at A.E. Staley's Research Laboratory in Decatur, IL. Tony was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church. He served on Clinton's Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Dr. John Warner Hospital Board of Directors, and was twice elected to the City Council as Commissioner of Public Property.He was active in the 'Y' Players of Clinton.He also served on the Board of Directors of the Clinton Country Club. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Clinton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Bill L. Bryan and Rev. David Hunte will officiate.Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:30-5:00 pm at the church.Cremation has been accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clinton Presbyterian Church, 402 N. Center St. Clinton, IL 61727, or to the Dr. John Warner Hospital, 422 W. White St. Clinton, IL 61727.
