Allen L. Freed, Age 88, of rural Green Valley passed away peacefully in his sleep with his daughter, Patti, by his bedside on Wednesday, September 8 at Methodist Medical Center. Allen was born February 28, 1933 in South Pekin to Otis and Hattie (Benjamin) Freed. He married Janet Herrman on May 10, 1969 in Manito, IL. She survives. Also surviving, his son, Jim, of Minneapolis, MN and his daughter Patti (Jason) Massaglia of Groveland. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Vinni Massaglia of Carbondale, Addi May Massaglia of Groveland, AJ and Carolina Freed of Minneapolis, MN and former daughter-in-law Kathy of Medina, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 half-brothers, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Allen proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in April of 1955. He was a 38-year employee of Keystone Steel and Wire, retiring from the Wire Mill Millwright Dept. in May 1994. During his retirement years, he enjoyed wood working projects, yard work and spending time with family. He used his many talents helping his children with remodeling projects around their homes. At the request of his grandchildren, he also designed and built whatever they wanted. He took great pleasure in watching "Dirtbag" baseball, Morton Potter baseball and softball, ICC Cougar baseball, SIU Saluki baseball, and Peoria Christian Center baseball, softball, and soccer. Cremation has been accorded. At the request of family, no services will be held. Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting Allens family.
