Afton E. Booth, 63, of Peoria passed away at 3:33 pm Sunday, May 13, 2018 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, with his loving wife at his side. He was born April 11, 1955 in Duluth, MN to Bobby Lee and Colene M.(Cohoon) Booth.He married Jill Geier on June 7, 1991 in Peoria. She survives. He was preceded in death by his father. Afton is survived by; his wife Jill; his mother, Colene Booth of Peoria; step mother, Bina Booth of Ormond Beach, FL; step son, Jeremy (Rachel) Foster of Roscoe, IL; step daughter, Shawna(Geoff) Bergman of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Kendall Foster, Cambry Foster, Josephine Bergman, Bo Francis Bergman. Afton attained his bachelor's degree in accounting from Western Illinois University. He spent all of his career in the insurance industry. He started with The Unland Co's on April 28th, 1980. He was a member of the Independent Agents of Illinois, a Certified Insurance Counselor since 1997, and a Certified School Risk Manager.Afton served as President of The Unland Co's until January 1, 2016, at which time he was appointed Chairman of the Board. He served on the Agents Advisory Council for Indiana Insurance (Liberty Mutual), Selective Insurance, and Accident Fund. Afton also served on the Commerce Bank Advisory Board 2005 - 2011 and on the Morton Community Bank Advisory Board 2011- 2018. He was a member of Rotary International, having been a member of the Farmington Rotary Club, East Peoria Rotary Club and Pekin Rotary Club, serving as President of the Pekin Rotary Club and received the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award. Afton was a member of Mount Hawley County Club since 1987 and enjoyed many golf outings with friends and clients. Afton especially enjoyed bicycling trips with his wife. Afton was the only child of a military father, so he had the pleasure of living in many places in the U.S., spending 9 of his boyhood years in Alaska. Afton loved and was loved by many who will miss him greatly. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 19th at First United Methodist Church, 116 NE Perry Ave, Peoria, IL, with visitation 1 hour prior. Pastor Dr. Tim Ozment will be officiating the service. An additional visitation will be held Friday May, 18th from 4-7 pm at the First United Methodist Church. Private burial will be in Trivoli Cemetery. Afton's family would like to thank Dr. Veeder and the staff at Illinois Cancer Care and Dr. Olsson and the staff at the Richard Owens Hospice Home. Memorials by be made to First United Methodist Church, children's ministry or OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home, 8630 Illinois State Route 91, Peoria.
